Frequently asked questions
How booking a verified local Companion works on Deeplay — what it costs, how payments are protected, how Companions are verified and how to become one. Can't find your answer? Email support@deeplay.com.au.
For Explorers
Deeplay is an Australian marketplace for platonic social companionship. Explorers — visitors or locals — book friendly, admin-approved local Companions by the hour for social activities such as coffee, city walks, meals, hikes, museums, karaoke and events. Deeplay is operated by DEEPLAY PTY LTD.
No. Deeplay is not a dating app. It is a platform for platonic social activities only, and every booking is covered by our Community Standards. Companions offer their time and company for social activities, nothing more.
Deeplay is live across Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Sydney is where Deeplay started. You can browse Companions by city on the Browse page.
Browse Companions, open a profile to see their activities, areas and hourly rate, and message them on Deeplay to agree on the plan. Then send a booking request with your card. Your Companion accepts or declines, and you are only charged once they accept.
Anything social and public that you both agree on: a coffee, a city or coastal walk, a meal, a museum or gallery visit, a hike, a market, karaoke or a local event. Each Companion lists the activities they offer on their profile.
Yes. During an activity you can request more time — from an extra 30 minutes up to an extra 3 hours. A new card hold is placed for the extra time and is charged once your Companion confirms the extension.
Payments & safety
Each Companion sets their own hourly rate, which is shown on their profile. Explorers pay the Companion's hourly rate plus a 5% service fee, shown clearly at checkout before you book.
When you send a booking request, your card is only authorised (held) through Stripe — it is not charged. The charge happens only when your Companion accepts. If they decline, the hold is released automatically.
No. All bookings and payments must stay on Deeplay and go through Stripe. Sharing contact details or arranging outside payments is blocked in chat and is against our Terms. Keeping payments on Deeplay is what protects both you and your Companion.
Every Companion application is reviewed and approved by the Deeplay team before a profile can go live. Companions must also pass government-ID verification through Stripe Identity before they can take bookings. Explorers verify their email address and mobile number.
Explorers and Companions message each other inside Deeplay to plan the activity, the meeting spot and the time. To keep everyone safe and bookings on the platform, contact details and requests for outside payment are blocked in chat.
If anything feels wrong, you can report it from inside Deeplay, and you can always contact our team at support@deeplay.com.au. Meeting in a public place for your first activity is always a good idea.
For Companions
Apply on the Become a Companion page. You need to be 18 or older and live in a city where Deeplay operates. The Deeplay team reviews every application, and once approved you complete Stripe Identity ID verification before you can take bookings.
Companions set their own hourly rate and keep 85% of it. Deeplay's commission is 15%. The Explorer's 5% service fee is paid separately by the Explorer and does not come out of your earnings.
Companions are paid through Stripe for every completed booking. Payments are never handled in cash or outside Deeplay.
Every activity is strictly platonic and must follow Deeplay's Community Standards and Terms. Companions choose which activities they offer, which bookings they accept, and when they are available.
